Reflecting on a Memorable 2026 Festival
The 2026 Fishbourne Literary Festival was a “memorable and thoroughly enjoyable occasion” that brought our community together for a day of inspiration, laughter, and incredible stories. We are still on a high from the wonderful atmosphere in St Peter & St Mary Church and the Church Hall.
“First Class” Talks and Engaging Authors
Our audience was captivated by an “excellent choice of speakers” this year. From the wide-ranging conversations with Patrick Gale and Kate Mosse to the fascinating joint session with Clare Chambers and Lissa Evans, the feedback has been glowing. Attendees described the talks as “fascinating,” “funny,” and “well-paced,” with one visitor noting that this year’s speakers were the “best” they had seen in four years. Whether it was Francis Spufford discussing the magic of the Blitz or Mike Gayle and Anna Mazzola sharing insights into their writing lives, our audience sat “captivated throughout”.
“Fantastic” Improvements
We were thrilled to hear that the new sound system made a “fantastic” difference this year. Visitors shared their joy at being able to hear every word clearly, calling it a “real joy” and a “huge improvement” that enhanced the overall experience. We also appreciate the positive comments on the “brilliantly organised” layout and our “helpful, cheerful” volunteers, who worked so hard to make everyone feel welcome.
Books, Cakes, and Community
The festival wasn’t just about the talks! The “fantastic value” second-hand book sale was a major hit, and our catering team received high praise for the “excellent cakes as always”. It was truly a “happy and welcoming experience for everyone”.
A Word from Our Guest Authors
It wasn’t just the audience who enjoyed the day; our authors were equally enchanted:
- Patrick Gale called the festival a “happy, productive and worthwhile event”.
- Lissa Evans shared that “everyone was so welcoming” and the day was “beautifully organised”.
- Kate Mosse noted the “great atmosphere” and said it was “fabulous to be part of it”.
- Mike Gayle enjoyed the “really appreciative” audience.
